2017 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Our first ever RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon. Picked from the best blocks in the vineyard, spent 24 months in all new French oak barrels. It has a whopping 14.8% natural alcohol.

The 2017 growing season in Niagara started out as what many thought would be a disaster. Persistent rain left vineyards, and even Toronto Island, flooded. Unlike the heat and dryness the region saw in 2016, the rain never seemed to stop. Many growers and wineries were worried it would be an awful vintage. However, as September approached, the faucet was turned off and for the entirety of September and October there wasn’t a raincloud in sight. The weather was warm, not too hot, breezy, and dry. Most didn’t know it at the time, but it became one of the great vintages of recent memory.

Our 2017 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon stands as one of the best representations of our most widely planted varietal. We have an excellent site to grow and ripen Cabernet. The soils are excellent for coaxing power and intensity into the fruit. Our carefully managed yields ensure we get perfect ripeness and concentration every year.

As 2017 was an excellent vintage, the decision was made to further age our top barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon in new French Oak for an additional 12 months. The resulting wine is layered and complex with both the density and elegance of great Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deeply coloured in the glass with the barest hint of brick on the rim, this Cabernet Sauvignon if full of complexity. With some bottle age, this wine has aromas of dark plum, ripe blackberry, maraschino cherry, leather, and fresh cedar. The palette shows off the seamless new oak integration, dark chocolate, blueberry, and a plush texture.
