2019 PINOT NOIR TASTING NOTES:
Our 2019 Pinot Noir is 100% estate grown and was a part of our first vintage in 2014. These vines are a part of the oldest vines planted in our vineyard, Icel Vineyard. However, 2019 vintage we decided to create a different style of Pinot Noir for the first time. This Pinot is our first screw cap (regular bottles) and the first vintage with a small amount of residual sugar (5g/L). This wine experienced 12 months in French and American oak and was estate bottled in November of 2020.
In glass, the pigment is typical of a cool climate Pinot Noir, ruby red with medium (-) intensity. The aromatics lead with raspberry, vanilla and a slight toasted character. The aromas are not overwhelming, which suits cool climate Pinot Noir perfect. Taking a few sips, you fell how tender the wines palate is from start to finish. The initial palate is fruity, ripe and contains notable acidity; leading to the finish where the oak character shines through with vanilla, black pepper and smoke. Leading with the finish, the additional sugar is not notable in flavor, but in texture. It provides a refreshing appeal that is commonly desired by Pinot. This what we were aiming for when creating this vintage; a wine that is appropriate on its own or paired along something of equal flavor intensity such as salad, sea food or dessert.
If you know us here at Icellars, Pinot Noir is our very own Elif Icel’s favourite; making Pinot very important to us.
