2019 MERLOT TASTING NOTES:

This Merlot is 100% estate grown, hand harvested and hand sorted. Merlot on the Icel Vineyard is one of our most vigorous varietals, each year producing higher quality and yield. In the 2017 vintage, we barrel aged this wine for 12 months in French oak barrels and bottled in the fall of 2018; being in bottle for 2 years thus far.

In the glass, the pigmentation of this wine is unlike most cool-climate Merlots. Its deep ruby and red tint are extremely bold and dark. The aromatics of this wine are fruity and smoky, with hints of over-ripened red berry, jam, fig, smoke and cigar. When taking a few sips, you will see direct translation with the fruit aromatics of the wine. With red berry jam, dates and fig flavors are very bold and smooth on the palate. The acidity of this vintage is slightly lower than our other wines produced in the same year, which in some cases is very typical for Merlot. This provides a long lasting finish and it lifted with the oak character. This wine is a perfect food pairing wine, of which would best be suited with high fat/protein. Given the alcohol of 14.5%, the food would help enrich this wine.
