2015 WIYANA WANDA TASTING NOTES:
Our 2015 Wiyana Wanda which is comprised of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, of which is 100% estate grown. This particular wine is made each year with our top selected barrels for premium quality. The 2015 vintage experiences our longest barrel aging with 24 months in French oak, and is bottled without filtering or fining. It was bottle in the year of 2017 and is currently aging with 3 years in bottle thus far.
In the glass, you can note the colors of red and brick with low viscosity. With a few breaths you take in a few interesting notes; you receive a fruit forward wine but with hints of cigar, leather and oak. This wine is far different than any of our other current vintages and we can thank the longer extension in barrel. With a few sips, you perceive a rounded wine from start to finish. The fruit starts the palette with hints of fig and dry aged prunes, followed with the oak presence presented by tobacco, herbs and baking spices. The finish is smooth due to its well-balanced acidity and alcohol of 13.5%.
This wine is not only our favorite here at Icellars, it is a crowd favorite. We not only enjoy the wine in the bottle but the origins of the name start us back at our historical roots, which you can learn more about on our website, icellars.ca.
